a cartoon of a globe telling you to buy less

What is "Slow Fashion?"

Slow fashion is the idea that you buy something with the expectation of it lasting a long time and getting better with age. back when people only had one nice suit, you wore it everyday. When you got a hole in it, you took it to your grandmother, or the cleaners to get it mended. And you loved it because it was your ticket into polite society. Today's world is cheap and disposable. Large companies amass huge profits and pollute the places we live.

I see the problem coming from two sources. First off, the vibe shifted from patina to planned obsolescence when companies scaled for global markets and moved production overseas in the 1990’s-2000’s. Second, the public shareholder model demands that companies grow every quarter. This is not anyone’s direct fault per se, but the result of a system designed to accomplish an impossible goal. Breaking even of taking a bit of a loss from last quarter is a straight up blasphemy even though no one is at risk of losing their job.

Infinite growth is not just an aspiration, but a mandate enforced by law. Therefore, as a company grows, your Goods becomes cheaper in price, but also in quality. This system is a miracle, but it’s catching up with us. Fast fashion has become a treadmill based on chasing trends, not truth. Instead we ask you, what is “good” about your Goods? It’s about slowing down and smelling the roses. It’s about saving your money for an experience instead of buying glamour on credit. It’s about quality, repairs, and secondhand. We offer original pieces along with verified third party sellers and secondhand resales. The lifespan of each product is considered in our selection.

  1. Materials - Are the materials natural? How polluting is the processing?
  2. Manufacturing - Are the workers paid/treated fairly? Is the product built to last and will it get better with age?
  3. Shipping - Is the product local or offset the carbon created by shipping?
  4. Repair - Can you get the item repaired? If it’s returned, will it be recycled?

These four points are where we start to change the story. I built a brand to focus on quality and sustainability over the profit/trend treadmill. To me, sustainability isn’t just a virtue signal to please an algorithm. Sustainability means the products and business are a long term investment for the future of slow fashion. I will gladly trade profits for a better choice, and make Goods “good” again. In the coming year of 2025, you should expect to see some really great products with these details documented on our product pages and newsletter. You will also see a generous return policy and a buyback program that make sure your purchase is made to last. You might also want to check our secondhand section, because some returns or repairs might have unique patches and patina’s for a hand mended look. This is something only a self directed private company can manage, so lets make the future a better place to live!

I look forward to find this community of likeminded people who want to look good and support the new way of doing business.
